­Pilar Jericó


Pilar was born in Madrid (Spain) and now resides in Madrid. She attended Madrid Autonoma University where she received a BS degree in Business Management.

Pilar Jericó holds a PhD in company organization and a first degree in economics and business studies, both from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She has also studied several courses on strategy at Harvard University and organizational behaviour at University of California. In Spain and Latin America she is considered to be a pioneer in the fields of talent management and the analysis of the impact of fear in companies.

Currently, Pilar is CEO of the consulting group Be-Up, which specializes in leadership and innovation programs and provides its services in Latin America and Spain. In this capacity she has worked with more than two hundred companies, including the Santander Group, Vodafone, BNP, Repsol, Disney, Hertz, Eli Lilly, Novartis, Saint Gobain, and Deloitte. Previously she was Director of Talent Management at HayGroup.

Pilar has written several books which have received widespread attention. NoMiedo (NoFear) describes the role which fear plays in our lives and how to overcome it. NoMiedo has been translated into five languages, included English. Pilar has also written an influential book about talent management: Gestión del Talento (Talent Management) (Prentice Hall, 2001). An adaptation of this book was published in Dutch in 2004. Two years ago she published Heroes Cotidianos (Everyday Heroes) which deals with the issue of proactive personal change. This year she had her first novel published, as well as a new book on the subject of strength-based management. Pilar is also the co-author of several books dealing with people management, leadership, and personal and professional development within companies.

In total, more than 300,000 copies of Pilar’s books have been sold in Spain and Latin America.

Pilar lectures in business schools around the world, including the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid and ESADE. She is also a professional conference speaker and is a member of the prestigious speaker network, Thinking Heads. Over the last few years she has given more than 150 talks in Europe and the Americas (Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, Monaco, Portugal, Paraguay, Spain, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico). She also frequently writes articles for the press and appears on radio and TV and has one the most visited blogs in newspaper El País.

The Spanish Cruz del Medalla al Mérito Militar con Distintivo Blanco, a military decoration, for her work in leadership programs for staff aspiring to the rank of general and rear-admiral and for a course for the General Staff at the Centre for Studies of National Defence (2007).

The Spanish Medalla al Mérito Policial con distintivo blanco (2013), a police decoration for her training in leadership programs for a course for the comisarios at the Police School.

Winner of the Manager Business Forum Prize for the best conference speaker in Spain (2009).

The Academic Excellence award from the Instituto de Empresa Business School (2010)

The Best Article on Human Resources award from RRHH Digital (Digital Human Resources) (2011).

Nominated for the best book on management by KnowSquare (2011).
